Midlands-based young champion farmer John Muchenje has urged young people with a passion for agriculture to pursue it for the good of the economy.
He was speaking at a soccer tournament at Holy Cross High School in Mberengwa in memory of his late father Cde Francis Muchenje who passed away 10 years ago.
“As a prominent young farmer and a former student for this school I urge those who have a great passion in Agriculture to consider farming as a profession. Zimbabwe is an agro-based economy and am seeing great business people coming from this sector,” he said.
“It is our responsibility as young farmers to nurture young children in Agriculture for sustainable development. I have pledged my time and resources to make sure that the Agriculture department of this school functions well and feed this school and surrounding community.”
Muchenje, who is also the Agricultural Ambassador for Germany based organisation DeutschConnect, an organisation that seeks to link Southern African Start Ups and Young Entrepreneurs with German business ecosystem, challenged learners at the school to behave well and concentrate on their school work since education is key to success.
Muchenje said youths in general and those in business should also appreciate the effort by the new dispensation in fighting corruption.
