over the week and by yesterday bookings of more than 320 bales had been made at TSF.
Deliveries were expected to start peaking today and over the weekend.
Premier Tobacco Auction Floor managing director, Mr Philemon Mangena said about 200 bales had been delivered at the auction floor by yesterday afternoon.
At Boka Tobacco Floor, farmers were also booking to sell their crop.
An official at Boka said the auction floor was educating farmers on the importance of making bookings before delivering the crop for sale.
“We expect tobacco deliveries starting Monday because most farmers would not want to leave their crop and would rather wait to sell their crop and go home,” said the official.
The opening days of the tobacco selling season have been associated with good prices hence the rush to sell in the opening days.
The 2013 season would be the fourth time auction floors will be opening in February.
Auction floors used to open in April but the Tobacco Industry and Marketing Board had changed the dates after realising farmers will be facing cash constraints.
A total of 170 million kilogrammes are expected to go under the hammer this season.
There have been heavy rains and dry spells in some tobacco growing areas that affected the crop.
