LOCAL motorsport enthusiasts will once again make their way to Donnybrook Park Raceway in Harare today to witness the latest edition of the 2026 Flat Track racing series.
All eyes will be fixed on the Fit and Go Race Series. This is the big one and motor racing at its very best.
The day will be filled with fantastic naturally-aspirated modified saloon cars screaming around the dirt oval flat track at Donnybrook.
“Series sponsors – Fit and Go – are pleased to welcome the local motorsport enthusiasts to come and watch and even participate in this great entry level motorsport event,” one of the organisers of today’s race meeting told Zimpapers Sports Hub yesterday.
“As always we have the very best home-grown Zimbabwean talent on offer through various classes of motorbikes and cars.”
On display will be motorbike riders from the Pee Wee classes and stars of tomorrow in the 50cc Class to the prep school class of small wheel 65 and 85cc classes to the High School Class 125cc and the big bikes weekend warriors Senior B 250 and 450cc classes.
Fans must look out for the Fit and Go Series Riders of AB Purcell battling out against Jayden Kerwin in the 50cc Class.
One of the country’s top junior motocross riders, Summer Series champion Victor Nyamupfukudza is also expected to compete together with Tariq Shelton, who will race in the High School Class.
Heading into the action-packed Senior Class will be the renowned Harare legend Dylan Zanin battling for the top honours with Ryan Ryno Emerick.
In the cars section, fans must check out for the 1200cc street classic cars of yesteryear and the Fit and Go-sponsored Chev of Brian Townsend, “the fastest madala in town”, coming from behind against Clive Naude.
This class is wide open with door banging dirt track action with spills and thrills.
There will be plenty of track side seating close to the action.
Racing starts at 2pm.
Flat track racing is mainly a thrilling motorcycle motorsport where riders race specialised bikes around flat, oval dirt tracks.
Its signature characteristic is the “controlled slide,” where riders pitch their bikes completely sideways at high speeds to navigate the tight 180-degree corners.
Often called “America’s Original Extreme Sport”, this discipline tests a rider’s finesse, balance, and throttle control rather than just straight-line speed.
