A FIGHT over a US$15 village court fine exploded into bloodshed when two brothers were hacked and beaten, leaving one dead and several others nursing serious injuries.

The violent showdown erupted at Sigilikithi Village in Sikhobokobo on 15 October when brothers Yizo (46) and Mduduzi Dlodlo confronted a villager who had reported them for letting their cattle graze in protected pastures.

The pair allegedly stormed the complainant’s homestead armed with axes and knobkerries, demanding the US$15 they had paid as a fine to the Village Head’s tribunal.
“An altercation ensued and the suspects attacked the complainant and his wife,” police said in a statement on X. “Two villagers, Ndumiso Mathe and Velele Sibanda, intervened and struck back using logs, an axe and a knobkerrie.”

The chaos turned deadly when Yizo Dlodlo was fatally struck and died on the spot. His brother Mduduzi and the attacked couple sustained multiple injuries in the savage melee.

Police have since urged villagers to resolve disputes peacefully and avoid taking the law into their own hands.
