The incident happened on Monday at about 3PM.

Said Insp Goko: “Allegations against Mangena are that  on Monday at around 3PM, the suspect was at home with his wife, Jestina  Maphosa. The two were outside the house while their two-month-old baby, Veronica Mangena, was asleep in their bedroom. Kefas Mangena then went into the bedroom to attend to the baby.

“While inside the house, the suspect   lifted the baby and headbutted her  several times resulting in the baby  crying”.
Insp Goko said Jestina Maphosa rushed inside the house to check when she heard  the baby crying.

“Once inside, Maphosa tried to stop Mangena from headbutting the baby  but Mangena instead threw the baby towards her. The baby hit against the wall  and stopped crying instantly.

“Maphosa informed other villagers who arrested Mangena as he was trying to run away,” he said.

The matter was reported to the police who attended the scene.
