THE Northern Region Soccer League have joined hands with the Football Ambassadors of Zimbabwe to help former CAPS United star, Asani Matora, who is not feeling well.
Former Warriors team manager, Sharrif Mussa, also chipped in, with a helping hand.
NRSL chaiman, Martin Kweza, said his league was willing to help former players.
“As the chairman of the Northern Region Soccer League, I would like to salute the Football Ambassadors of Zimbabwe, for the job they are doing,” said Kweza.
“It’s a gap that has existed, for a long time, and it’s good that its now being filled by the right people.
“As the Northern Region Soccer League, we were approached by the Football Ambassadors of Zimbabwe, to assist in raising funds for Matora, after his pictures went viral on social media.
“We saw it as a noble gesture to participate in the fundraising, and we contributed in our own small way.
“As football, we must come up with a fund that will cater for players after their playing time and this should cover pension, medical aid and funeral cover.
“We are working with FAZ to approach established companies, who are keen to venture into football, with the above proposed plan.’’
FAZ chairman, Justice Majabvi, said his organisation will continue helping Matora.
“As an organisation we traced the root of the picture and got to reach him and, on the same day, we managed to speak to his father, Ali,’’ said Majabvi.
“We took the responsibility as FAZ, to reach out to other stakeholders, for assistance, including the NRSL, and Sharrif Mussa, of Muhamed Mussa Wholesalers.
“They quickly responded to our plea. Matora has not been well for a few months. We are glad he is now recovering, and we will do everything to assist.”
The 46-year old former defender had been working for a private company, in Kwekwe, before he fell sick, just a few months after leaving the firm.
