LISTED financial services group, FBC Holdings Limited, yesterday donated a solar system worth thousands of dollars to Entembeni Old People’s Home in Bulawayo as part of its company’s corporate social responsibility.
The solar system was handed over to Entembeni in Luveve suburb by FBC group head of marketing, Mr Roy Nyakunuwa, who, together with his team, also provided lunch to the elderly.
Over the years, FBC has invested in sustainable social and philanthropic initiatives as part of efforts to ensure that its operations benefit all stakeholders, including the community in which it operates.
“We appreciate the challenges faced by society and understand the difficulties faced by communities in alleviating these challenges,” said Mr Nyakunuwa.
“We handed over a solar 10kW system as it is going to play a major role in energy, lighting, heating and connection of other equipment in the old people’s home.
“In this regard, we commend the leadership of Entembeni Old People’s Home for the unwavering dedication towards playing a pivotal role in alleviating the socio-economic challenges faced by the elderly.”
Mr Nyakunuwa said FBC was committed to working closely with communities it operates in, hence the support to Entembeni Old People’s Home.
He added that FBC was also running other initiatives, which include paying school fees for less privileged pupils and building public facilities for the betterment of the communities.
“We are also building schools in Chiredzi, Chimanimani and Masvingo, as well as being involved in many sectors to assist the underprivileged,” said Mr Nyakunuwa.
“In the same vein, the FBCH Group completed the construction of a modern classroom block at Charleswood Primary School in Chimanimani.”

The school’s buildings were destroyed by Cyclone Idai and the banking group chipped in by providing key building material for the construction of the modern classroom block.
Board member of Entembeni, Mrs Blessing Ncube, expressed gratitude over the donations given by the FBC Holdings, saying this will help a lot in terms of alleviating the shortage of electricity.
“We are grateful for the solar system and we hope it will assist us for many years as we already have a problem with electricity.
“As Entembeni, we have challenges, including transport such that even when one of our members dies it takes long to have the body taken to the mortuary, and it is a traumatising experience.
“Also, most of our donors donate meal-mealie, but there’s no relish and no money to cover bills such as medication,” said Mrs Ncube. – @Lo7246Lovelyn
