FC Hunters players are likely to dominate Zimbabwe’s Under-23 side when the Young Warriors begin their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualification campaign against Mauritius, with the squad expected to be announced soon.
Zimbabwe host Mauritius in the first leg on September 28, with the return match on October 6.
Mafious Chihweta, Tadiwa Chakuchichi, Tadiwanashe Huni, Junior Meya, Benjamin Goliath, Elder Chirima, Ordain Sira, Vusimuzi Ngwenya and Rasmarley Chipango will emerge as key names under consideration by coach Marc Sanchez.
Sanchez has already declared that he is monitoring players suited to his possession-based approach, which is FC Hunters’ identity as well.
The potential high representation reflects coach Nesbert “Yabo” Saruchera’s long-standing commitment to developing young talent during the club’s first top-flight season.
Saruchera has previously linked his philosophy to the opportunity he received as a schoolboy when the late Ashton “Papa” Nyazika promoted him to the Black Rhinos first team.
“I feel it is my turn to develop young talent in Zimbabwe so that our football can grow.
“If I see a talented boy, I will give him an opportunity to shine,” said Saruchera.
The approach explains why FC Hunters have seen the youngsters get more game time in the top-flight compared to other teams in the league.
For Saruchera, Young Warriors’ multiple call-ups would mark a tangible reward for a coaching philosophy built around giving youth a chance.
“If these youngsters receive call-ups, which I believe they deserve, it will be a great win for the club and me as we have put faith in them where a few have chosen to do so.
“But everything remains in the power of those assigned to do so. They should be in a position to do their job freely and rightfully.”
Yabo said his advice for Sanchez is to cast his net wide, even to accommodate those playing in the lower leagues.
“We have raw talent playing in the lower divisions in the team. I bet if he extends his net there, many will be surprised, as there is enough talent competing week in, week out capable of representing the Young Warriors.”
Saruchera said he is hopeful to lead the Warriors one day as he is a patriotic citizen and a hardworking individual.
“Since my playing days, hard work has been the secret to my success. I have prioritised it, and I believe it will one day take me to the top of my career which will be the Warriors’ top job. I am looking at it and getting myself ready,” said Saruchera.
Meanwhile, CAPS United attacking duo of Allen Mukombedzi and Malcolm Banisy, Dynamos’ duo of Anotida Gwatidzo and Witness Shave are also expected to receive a Young Warriors call.
