FC PLATINUM have been hit hard by injuries and they are likely to feel the pinch this afternoon as they miss key players in the Midlands derby against Chapungu at Ascot.
The side will be without strikers Donald Ngoma and Nelson Maziwisa while their injury-prone skipper Daniel Veremu is back on the sidelines and faces up to one month in plaster.
Ngoma is not likely to return soon as he has been asked to rest for six weeks to recover from a shoulder injury.
Defender Raphael Muduviwa is also not available for selection as he has just resumed training after shaking off a nagging knock.
However, the team’s assistant coach Ralph Kawondera believes Kugona Kunenge Kudada will be able to stand their ground and claim a rare away win away from their Mandava fortress.
The platinum miners have not won an away match this year despite their dominant displays at home and are currently in the bottom half of the log table, six points adrift of leaders Highlanders.
Both teams will be led by assistant coaches as Lloyd Mutasa and Chapungu’s John Nyikadzino are attending a Caf A Licence course in Harare. Kawondera, who stands in for his close friend Mutasa, said they are were taking Chapungu lightly.
“We have been working very hard because we are quite aware Chapungu are a difficult team when they are playing at home,” said Kawondera.
