CONSISTENT diva Feli Nandi is now reaping the rewards of her hard work and dedication after capturing the attention of South Africa-based entrepreneur and arts promoter Philani Dube.
The “Mubayeyi” hit-maker is on the verge of becoming the brand ambassador for iDube Wines.
As this exciting deal approaches finalisation, Dube has invited Feli Nandi to perform at the Saturday Nights Live session on August 16 at Hard Rock Café in Johannesburg.
The event, which brings together jazz lovers and diners, is hosted by Dube’s promotional company, Gumption Inc Entertainment.
In an interview with Zimpapers Arts and Entertainment Hub from his base in Sandton, Johannesburg, Dube expressed his admiration for Feli Nandi.
“Feli Nandi is currently the number one trending Zimbabwean artiste. She has a remarkable stage presence, an engaging ambience and delivers her performances with skill,” he stated.
“She is truly fit for global jazz festivals, not just in South Africa or Zimbabwe; she is an international brand.”
Dube recalled their first encounter when Feli Nandi was a backing vocalist for Ashton “Mbeu” Nyahora at a show at his former venue, Macanudo Cigar Lounge in Sandton.
“Even then, I knew she was destined for greatness. She has always been a hard worker who takes her craft seriously,” he emphasised.
Dube, who praises the diva for her professionalism and humility, noted that she is the right candidate for their sixth edition of the Saturday Live Nights in August.
Blow away the success of her “Vasikana VeMarokwe” movement, which they incorporated into the dress code theme of her upcoming show, Dube, who shares the same totem as the diva, continued:
“iDube Wines, launching soon, is created out of preserving not only my immediate Dubes (Samaitas, Tembos, Mapungwanas, Mhlangas, Mutasas, etc) family but also the entire Zebra totem bearers across the globe.
“So iconic Zebra totem bearers like Tete Feli Nandi herself, “VaManjenjenje,” it will be fitting to have her as our brand ambassador. We shall be tying down those loose ends in the near future.”
Reflecting on the appeal of Zimbabwean music in South Africa, Dube stressed that Zimbabweans based in South Africa have immense respect for their music and culture.
“The saddening part, though, is our South African counterparts who are not inclusive of our music on any of their platforms. It’s only Tuku who was given great appeal.
“To achieve such recognition, I would advise Zimbabwean artistes to collaborate with South African artistes. As a person who works with many South African artistes, I am confident they are keen to do so.”
Dube, who is eager to help Feli Nandi make a breakthrough in South Africa, is optimistic that it is a possible mission.
“I am highly supported by many South African radio and television stations, print media, and those outlets with most of my event offerings. I have a media tour across South Africa ready for execution,” he said.
In another interview, Feli Nandi confirmed the tour and expressed her excitement.
“I am ready for the tour in August. We are pushing hard to make an international breakthrough.
“I am looking forward to the August show, and my management has finalised everything,” she expressed.
“I am willing to work with the promoter and will be guided by my management team.”
Dube, who has over a decade in the industry, has worked with many Zimbabwean artistes, including Mbeu, Diana Samkange, Killer T, Nox, Dadza D and Basil Makombe from Chimurenga music legend Thomas Mapfumo.
Dube is hailed as one of the reputable promoters who have been giving fair deals to his peers.
Unlike fly-by-night arts promoters who renege on their deals with locals, Dube is known for embracing professionalism, which has made him one of the most trusted promoters in South Africa.
Feli Nandi, who is trending in Zimbabwe, is set to benefit from him with an ambassadorial role line-up.
Feli Nandi’s journey highlights the power of persistence in the arts.
With her growing recognition and new opportunities, including the upcoming performance and potential partnership with iDube Wines, she is poised to make an even greater impact on the music scene.
As she continues to evolve as an artiste, fans eagerly await what the future holds for this talented performer.
