POETRY, music and wine will punctuate the start of the annual Intwasa Arts Festival on December 29 at the National Gallery of Zimbabwe in Bulawayo as six women will meet for the annual Women, Wine and Words.

Intwasa Arts Festival which is an annual winter fixture was scheduled to take place between 26 September and 1 October but ended up being postponed to late this month.
Set to perform at the much-loved Women, Wine and Words – a Pan-African event that celebrates women through their creative genius across all artistic genres are Tariro NeGitare, Thandy Dhlana, Nkwali, Michelle Tanya, Khanya and Harare-based Batsirai Chigama.

In an interview with Chronicle Showbiz, the creatives expressed readiness for the event.
Guitarist Tariro NeGitare who is now resident in Bulawayo said: “I’m looking forward to sharing the stage with Bulawayo’s finest. I love Intwasa and this particular platform because they are intentional about promoting women at different levels.

“I’m particularly excited about Khanya who has also featured at our Acoustic nights.”
Singer, Thandy Dhlana said the event is a unifier.

“I’m ready for the event. It unifies and grows us together. Sisters are stronger together. The future is female!” she said.

Nkwali, in a buoyant mood after the release of her wedding song with Blessings Nqo, said patrons must brace themselves for a memorable night.

“Music lovers should bring their dancing shoes as it’s going to be a night to remember. Women are the pillars of strength in everything and I believe in unity.

“Once we unite as women, we can overcome anything and I also believe that we learn every day. So, in meeting women in my industry, I get to learn something and vice-versa,” she said.

Besides the all-women affair, art lovers are set to enjoy theatre with the staging of “Zandezi” at the Bulawayo Theatre on December 29 while the following day, the tales of “The Vagina Monologues Africa” will be told. An Intwasa Xtra Youth Concert will also be staged.

Performing at the concert will be Hwabaraty, Bhekiwe, Ganyaz Jr, Acquilla K, Bleckhit, Simunye Simunye Arts, DJ CP, LaDee, Maluka and DJ Kotwane. – @eMKlass_49
