HE got the shock of his life when he got the disheartening news that his wife-to-be had been murdered in cold blood by another man whom he had always known to be her ex-lover.
When news spread that Fortunate Sithole (27) had been murdered at a city lodge and her body set on fire, the man who was a few months away from tying the knot with her, Khotso Ncube was shocked and hoped to hear that there was a mix-up somewhere.
Ncube revealed that he thought he was dreaming when the death news was confirmed and besides being shocked by the death, the news that she was pregnant hurt him more.
When Sithole died the two had been engaged and at an advanced stage of wedding preparations.
a�?We had been together for five years and preparing for our wedding in March. I did not even have a clue that she was still communicating with Tonderai Marabwa whom I believed they had separated many years ago.
a�?To make it worse, the pregnancy issue was news to me and I wonder what was really happening, but unfortunately I will never get the answers,a�? said Ncube.
No one from her family cared to explain to him and he suffered throughout the funeral wake and burial.
a�?I was in pain but managed to attend her burial. Her family didna��t explain anything to me and up to now Ia��m still in a world of my own.
a�?At times I fail to sleep or eat thinking about the whole incident and only find comfort in God. Following what transpired, I have come to believe that it was going to be a failed marriage,a�? he said.
Efforts to get a comment from Sibandaa��s family were fruitless as the contacted member refused to comment.
According to our sister paper Chronicle; the pregnant Sithole was allegedly murdered by her boyfriend who strangled her before burning her body.
The workers at the lodge in Kumalo suburb said Sithole had booked the room alone claiming that her boyfriend was going to join her later.
The alleged boyfriend was not seen by anyone and he allegedly sneaked out through a window after allegedly killing her.
The workers realised something was amiss when they saw the room going up in flames and they phoned police and the fire brigade who found the deceased body stashed under a mattress which had been set on fire.
The alleged boyfriend was later arrested and dragged to court.
