FIFA have added another member to the ZIFA Normalisation Committee by appointing Chartered Accountant Cynthia Malaba as the vice-chairperson.
The Normalisation Committee was appointed last month by FIFA to run the affairs of ZIFA for the next 12 months.
This follows the lifting of the international football suspension of Zimbabwe.
The Committee is chaired by Lincoln Mutasa and has ex-Highlanders footballer Sikhumbuzo Ndebele, women’s football coach and CAF instructor Rosemary Mugadza and lawyer Nyasha Sanyamandwe as its members.
Yesterday in a brief statement issued by ZIFA spokesperson Xolisani Gwesela, the association announced the addition of a fifth member to the Committee.
The Normalisation Committee chairman Mutasa said in the statement that Malaba brings in vast experience in corporate management.
“We have the pleasure to inform you that FIFA have added Ms Cynthia Malaba a Chartered Accountant to the Normalisation Committee. She brings wealth of knowledge and many years of experience in the corporate world,” wrote Mutasa.
According to the First Mutual website, Malaba has vast experience having worked for blue chip companies such as Delta Corporation, KPMG and OK Zimbabwe.
“Cynthia is a Chartered Accountant. She attended the Gordon Institute Of Business Science’s global leadership program.
“Cynthia holds a Bachelor of Accountancy (Honours) degree from the University of Zimbabwe. She is also a holder of a Bachelor of Accounting Science degree (B Compt. Honours), Certificate in the Theory of Accountancy (CTA), and Post Graduate Diploma in Auditing from the University of South Africa.
“In the past Cynthia held senior positions in organisations that include Delta Corporation, Mega Pak Zimbabwe, OK Zimbabwe and KPMG.
“Cynthia is a non-executive director of Rainbow Tourism Group, Bindura Nickel Corporation, Dulys Holding (Pvt) Ltd and past Chairperson of Culture Fund Trust and director of Africa Century (Pvt) Ltd.”
The Committee has already hit the ground running. They recently unviled a new Referees Committee chaired by Norman Matemera and this week they advertised the posts of all the national teams, including the flagship Warriors and the Mighty Warriors.
According to FIFA, the Normalisation Committee will have the following duties:
- to run the daily affairs of ZIFA;
- to restructure the ZIFA administration;
- to establish, with the help of FIFA, a collaboration agreement between the Ministry of Sport/the SRC and ZIFA, which will define the responsibilities and objectives of each party, including (but not exclusively) on the topic of sexual harassment;
- to review the ZIFA Statutes and Electoral Code to ensure their compliance with the FIFA Statutes and requirements, and to ensure their adoption by the ZIFA Congress;
- to act as an electoral committee in order to organise and conduct elections of a new ZIFA Board based on the newly aligned ZIFA Statutes and Electoral Code; and
- to ensure a proper financial handover to the new ZIFA Board.
The period of time during which the Normalisation Committee will perform its functions will expire as soon as it has fulfilled all of its duties, but by June 30, 2024 at the latest.
