Fife Street sales: Mr Kata overwhelmed

Maurice Kambukwe
BULAWAYO-based hip-hop artiste, Mike Kata, affectionately known as Mr Kata, says he is overwhelmed by the response heas receiving on his second album, Fife Street, released last month.

In just a single month, the rapper has sold over 300 copies, something he did not witness in his debut album Naked Truth.

a?I am overwhelmed by the response my second album is receiving. It shows that people appreciate my music. In my debut album I sold only 200 copies the whole year but with Fife Street within a month I have sold 300 copies ,a? said Kata.

While piracy has always been the factor that hits local artistes, Kata said his marketing strategy for this album had helped him realise satisfactory sales.

a?You cannot beat piracy, soon enough it will be circulating all over WhatsApp, but since the album is just a month old, we have been maximising on selling the album as hard copy for just $3. We have also used WhatsApp to sell single tracks in the album which are going for 80 cents,a? explained Kata.

The 10-track album features some notable names in the music industry such as Mzoe 7, Blazey Boi, Pronix and other upcoming artistes.

a?Ungakhali featuring Pronix and Zunguza featuring Mzoe 7 are some of the tracks that people should look out for,a? said Kata.
