HIGHLANDERS FC benefactor Tshinga Dube yesterday challenged the team’s players to raise their game to win this year’s Castle Lager championship.
He said if they win, he will slaughter a beast for them and help mobilise resources for their bonuses for clinching the title.
He said despite trailing log leaders Ngezi Platinum by seven points with six matches to go, the championship was still within reach.
On Wednesday they were held to a 1-1 draw by Greenfuel while leaders Ngezi faultered as they lost 2-1 to Dynamos.
Dube said the boys must invoke the ‘Amahlolanyama Spirit’ which he said had in the past seen Highlanders rise from the ashes to achieve silverware.
“The fight is on, they are still in with a chance. The gap between them and the leaders Ngezi Platinum is not so big. Ngezi were beaten on Wednesday and this works to Highlanders’ favour. FC Platinum lost too, the boys must win the last 18 points from six matches and let the other three teams in the race falter on their own.
“Highlanders are known for their fighting spirit. They have the warrior instincts in them and they will put up a good show up to the end to win the title,” said Dube.
He said the boys must have self-belief.
“The boys must believe that they are just as good as any other great side in the Premiership deserving of the title. They must push themselves beyond the limit and play their best,” said Dube.
He said a unity of purpose with all energies on psyching up the boys despite a recent slump is what will take the boys to the crown.
“We need unity, we need to be with each other now than before to conquer. At Highlanders we are one through thick and thin, the boys need a lifting up of their morale,” said Dube.
Dube has done so much for Highlanders in the past and at one stage helped Bosso pay foreign coaches.
