A MAN from Filabusi, in Phumelela village under Chief Maduna, has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for rape and aggravated indecent assault involving his two minor granddaughters aged 13 and 12.
The 52-year-old was convicted by the Gwanda Regional Magistrates’ Court.
“Between November 2025 and June 2026, the offender repeatedly targeted his 13-year-old granddaughter, subjecting her to unwanted sexual advances and raping her on four separate occasions at his homestead including inside a cattle kraal, in the fields and in the kitchen.
“On 4 June 2026, the offender also cornered his 12-year-old granddaughter in his bedroom, offered her snacks, and indecently assaulted her. Throughout the period of abuse, the offender repeatedly threatened to commit suicide if the children disclosed his actions,” said the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ) in a statement.
The abuse came to light after the 12-year-old victim fled the homestead to seek refuge at her maternal aunt’s home and disclosed the ordeal.
“The matter was reported to the police, leading to the offender’s arrest and both victims were referred to the hospital for medical examination. The court sentenced the offender to 20 years imprisonment on rape and aggravated indecent assault,”
The court ordered the sentences to run concurrently.
“The NPAZ condemns all forms of sexual violence and abuse against children, particularly by those entrusted with their care, and remains committed to prosecuting perpetrators and ensuring justice for vulnerable members of society,”
