Putting her hands on her head in shock, she could be seen screaming ‘‘no, no, no’’ before consoling fellow contestant and Team Christina member Kimberly.
The result left Christina Aguilera with just one singer in the competition as the field narrowed to five semi-finalists.
Christina, who dressed down for the results show in an animal print sweater, confessed she would be both happy and heartbroken at the instant save results as India and Kimberly found themselves in the bottom two.
Fighting it out for viewer votes, India performed the Pink hit “Perfect”, while Kimberly wowed the judges with her take on the White Stripes song “Seven Nation Army”.
Adam Levine told India: ‘‘You’ve turned from a really skilful singer into somebody who can be proud, regardless of the outcome, to have become an artist.’’
Christina, who begged the public to vote for both her contestants, added: “I have gained so much respect and love for you throughout this competition.
‘‘You came in just a forced to be reckoned with. You’re still a force to be reckoned with.’’
Pharrell, meanwhile, waxed lyrical about Kimberly’s save-me song and made it clear which of the two girls he was backing.
‘‘You sing the Jack White song like this was meant for you,’’ he said.
‘‘You are an incredible artist, you represent something that America has not supported in a long time and that’s a beautiful, beautiful voice like yours.”
Christina said: “Every single week I’ve seen you come out here and you’ve electrified every single audience. You’ve brought them to their feet.’’
With just seconds to go in the instant save, which saw viewers tweeting to send their favourite through to next week’s semi-final, votes were tied at 50 /50.
But as Kimberly and India hugged one another tightly on stage, host Carson finally announced that Kimberly would be going home.
She had previously spoken about how ‘‘blessed’’ she was to be part of Christina’s team.
Addressing her mentor, she said: ‘‘Thank you for saving me in the battles, for believing in this little black girl from Seattle who wanted to sing rock music.’’
Sawyer Fredericks, Meghan Linsey, Koryn Hawthorne and Joshua Davis all breathed a sigh of relief when they found out they had made it through to next week’s semi-final.
The results show also saw performances from “The Voice” alumni Jacquie Lee, Vicci Martinez, Craig Wayne Boyd and Avery Wilson, who was introduced by 83-year-old music mogul Clive Davis. — TMZ.
