FINTECH company EcoCash’s Chakachaya Ziyawa promotion, through which over 100 000 customers have been wining prices ranging from household appliances and cash, will end on Thursday next week.

The promotion, which was launched on June 19 this year, was running under the theme “Transact. Earn. Win.”

Zimbabwe, through platforms such as EcoCash, is among the leading countries in Africa that is driving financial inclusion through the wide adoption of mobile financial digital technologies.

“I use EcoCash for everything — sending money, buying airtime, even receiving remittances. I didn’t think much of it until one day when I got a call telling me that I won a fridge. I picked it up from the Masvingo EcoCash office, and I am still can’t get over it to this day,” said one of several winners, Peter Mutubuki, from Masvingo.

Jacob Ruputsa, a winner from Gweru, was equally elated.

“This is more than a promotion. It’s something that’s brings joy into people’s lives,” said Ruputsa, who won a fridge.

Prizes on offer in the Chakachaya Ziyawa promotion include smartphones, solar systems, household appliances, grocery vouchers, farming equipment, motorbikes and cows, amongst others.

The promotion allows customers earn points for performing routine financial transactions, such as cash-ins, airtime and data bundle purchases, bill payments, sending or receiving money, as well as receiving salaries and diaspora remittances.

Those who accumulate at least 20 points per week automatically qualify for weekly draws. Customers who earn 500 points or more unlock eligibility for the grand prizes, which include a holiday for two in Dubai and an all-expenses-paid trip for two to Morocco to watch an AFCON match.

The grand prize draw will be held in a week’s time.
