An industrial park along Seke Road in Hatfield, Harare, was damaged by fire, resulting in the loss of property worth thousands of dollars.
Mr Joseph Manomano, who works at the complex, said nobody knew what caused the fire, but the oil in the workshop exacerbated it.
“At the moment no one really knows what caused the fire, we are still waiting for the forensic report by the fire brigade, but the oil caused much of the explosions,” he said.
“I received a call on Tuesday around 7pm by someone who lives opposite the complex saying the building was burning. I called some of the workmates who stay closer to the workshop and they confirmed that the building was on fire.”
Mr Manomano said inside the building were drums of lubricants and vehicle spare parts.
“The building that was heavily affected had lubricants; there were more than 300 drums of oil,” he said.
“That oil caught fire and caused explosions, destroying the rooftops and windows.”
