A fire broke out at a building in Harare’s Central Business District early this morning, resulting in the loss of goods worth thousands of dollars.
The blaze, which reportedly began around 1am, completely gutted the building that is located at the intersection of Chinhoyi Street and Agostinho Neto Avenue (formerly Speke Avenue).
Several businesses were housed at the building, including Bezbets, a betting company that was destroyed by the fire.
The ground floor, partitioned into several clothing shops, was hit hard, with all stock destroyed.
A hair salon and a pool hall were also destroyed.

The blaze, which reportedly began around 1am, completely gutted the building that is located at the intersection of Chinhoyi Street and Agostinho Neto Avenue (formerly Speke Avenue).
The pool hall suffered significant damage, with all pool tables destroyed, and computers and smart televisions partially melted, leaving only remnants on the walls.
Shop owners and employees have gathered at the scene to survey the damage, many visibly distraught.
Some are attempting to retrieve goods from the building.
Managers and security guards who were on duty when the fire broke out said the inferno originated on the ground floor.
According to security personnel who requested anonymity, the fire brigade’s response was hindered by a lack of water in their trucks.
The cause of the fire is yet to be established.
