Girls who drop out of school due to pregnancy or marriage should be allowed to resume their education, with catch-up lessons and examination support available to help them complete their studies.

Primary and Secondary Education principal educational psychologist, Mr Cephas Shanyurai, said the education system remained open to all learners, citing the Education Amendment Act of 2020 and Statutory Instrument 18 of 2025.

“No student is going to be turned away from school, whether they are coming from the so-called marriages due to pregnancy,” he said.

Mr Shanyurai said programmes were in place to support girls returning to school, including initiatives involving development partners such as CAMFED.

He said the curriculum was designed to recognise learners’ different aptitudes and help them develop their abilities and reach their full potential.

“Practical subjects are also intended to equip girls with skills to prepare their own meals and reduce their vulnerability,” he said.

He said girls could also seek assistance through a ministry chat service and gave 317 as the number to call for support.

“The girls should be able to seek service and the system will support them,” he said.

He said we involve beam to help the girl child after giving birth when eesuming for school.

“In some of the schools there are projects that help them to pay their fees and take care of the child,” he said.
