IN less than two weeks, the final round of the prestigious 2024 ROK Cup Zimbabwe karting championship will be hosted at the Pole Position kart track at National Sports Stadium.
In the Mini ROK class, the championship has been an intense affair with three talented young drivers, Seth Rukato (Tonykart), Yaseen Savania (Kosmic Kart), and Eli Pilossof (Parolin kart) all fighting for top honours.
Rukato, who currently leads the championship with 10 wins and 414 points, has been in amazing form and together with Yaseen Savania (388 points) and Eli Pilossof (374 points) are set to provide spectacular racing in the final round.
At stake, is the opportunity to represent Zimbabwe at the ROK World Super final hosted in Italy during October.
With over 400 competitors from 40 countries, the event assembles the best of the best from each country and offers an experience of a lifetime for its participants.
At the last meeting, Devin Van de Linde (Tonykart) delivered a great performance with Eshaan Savania (Tonykart) continuing to improve and are drivers to watch in the future.
Hopefully, young Matthew Mukori (Kosmic) will be out to show that despite a few missed meetings this year, he still has what it takes to challenge the aggressive mid-field group.
ROK Cup Zimbabwe promoter, Kevin Dufty, said: “We are very excited to see another Zimbabwean competitor going to Italy to compete in the ROK World Super Finals. The achievement reflects a lot of hard work and we appreciate the support given to us by ROK Cup Africa and ROK Global.”
In the Kid ROK class, for the youngest competitors starting from the age of 6 years, competition at the front has also been close.
Zack Staples (Kosmic kart) currently holds a slender lead in the championship and is closely followed by Rayaan Savania (Tonykart) and Elroy Shamu (Kosmic Kart) who has made a late charge in the season. All these youngsters have had an exceptional season and are separated by only 12 points in the championship standings.
Sheunesu Shambare (Praga) and Manuel Mukori (Zanardi) who both missed the last race meeting will be hoping to pick up their duelling again.
In the super-fast 125 Rotax class, 2023 champion Zaydaan Savania is leading the championship with Jaedon Masiyanise in very close attendance.
With three more rounds in the Kart Sport Club championship, there is still everything to play for in this class.
Young Tawana Shambare, in only his third race in this high-performance class, has shown he has the talent to challenge the two front runners.
With a win and a pole position in qualifying already under his belt, he will be eager to take the fight to Savania and Masiyanise. Deanne and Zayyan, the Savania siblings who already have podiums under their belt will be keen to push towards the front pack.
In the ever-popular ProKart class, rookie Keron Lowe leads the Spring championship closely followed by Shaun Chifamba and Josh Flight.
This class was introduced by Pole Position Karts to bridge the gap between recreational and race karts and is proving a great success.
The next Kart race meeting will be on Sunday, September 1, and starts at 10:30am at the Pole Position Kart track within the National Sports Stadium venue.
