Firm duped of $2,4 million

AN OK Mart employee in Harare yesterday appeared in court on allegations of stealing Proliant ML30 servers worth $2,4million from his employer.

Permission Chiripanyanga (30) appeared before Harare magistrate Mr Shane Kubonera charged with theft.

Chiripanyanga, who was being represented by lawyer Mr Tungamirai Muganhiri, denied the charges and was remanded to October 14 for trial on $5 000 bail.

OK Mart was represented by Gerald Kamudyariwa, who is an IT Support supervisor. The State led by Miss Caroline Mutimusakwa had it that on September 13 this year, OK Mart bought three HP Proliant ML30 servers and placed them in the storeroom for safekeeping. On September 24, at around 10am Kamudyariwa wanted the servers to train his subordinates on how to use them.

It was then discovered that the servers were missing. Kamudyariwa went to replay the Closed-Circuit Television at the supermarket and it was discovered that Chiripanyanga had stolen the servers. Some of the servers worth $1,6million were recovered, according to the State.
