DOMBOVIEW Adventures is making a final call for Zimbabweans to join its Pinktober Colour Hike at Ngomakurira Mountain this Saturday, in a landmark event that fuses cancer awareness with the promotion of local tourism and cultural heritage.
The Pinktober Colour Hike, now in its latest edition, is dedicated to raising awareness and supporting during Cancer Awareness Month, with a special focus on women affected by cancer.
The event is themed around the colour pink, a global symbol of solidarity in the fight against breast cancer, and aims to channel a portion of proceeds directly into cancer awareness initiatives, including sponsoring tickets for cancer survivors.
Founder of Domboview Adventures Dr Pearson Pfavayi, emphasised the firm’s commitment to the cause despite a recent strategic shift.
“While we have concluded our partnership with the Cancer Care Network of Zimbabwe for this event, our dedication to supporting cancer awareness remains as strong as ever. We believe in making a tangible impact, and this hike is our way of giving back to the community while celebrating our heritage,” said Dr Pfavayi.
Domboview Adventures has built a reputation for blending eco-friendly tourism, cultural revival, and community empowerment. The company’s initiatives are closely aligned with Zimbabwe’s national tourism strategy, which in 2025 has seen record growth, with over 1.6 million international arrivals and a renewed focus on domestic tourism and sustainable development .
“In honour of Cancer Awareness Month, we are promoting the pink colour during this hike, which is our way of raising cancer awareness while also encouraging domestic tourism,” Dr Pfavayi explained. By bringing people back to our sacred mountains and heritage sites, we are reviving our cultural identity. Our events are about reconnecting with who we are as Zimbabweans, and using that unity to support critical community issues like cancer awareness.”
Ngomakurira: A Sacred and Scenic Destination
Ngomakurira Mountain, located in Domboshava just 30–40 kilometres north of Harare, is renowned for its ancient San rock art, unique balancing rocks, and deep spiritual significance.
The name “Ngomakurira” translates to “beating drums,” referencing the echoing sounds produced by its granite formations . The site has long been a focal point for traditional ceremonies and is a key attraction for both local and international tourists seeking cultural immersion and natural beauty.
The hike will offer participants a guided trek through the mountain’s scenic trails, storytelling sessions about the site’s history, and a vibrant colour paint experience. The event will also feature entertainment from one of last year’s winners of the Starbrite talent show, Zimbabwe’s oldest and most celebrated platform for discovering local artistic talent . This blend of adventure, culture, and entertainment is designed to create a holistic and memorable experience for all attendees.
Tourism Promotion and Social Impact
The Pinktober Colour Hike comes at a time when Zimbabwe’s tourism sector is experiencing a renaissance, driven by Government policy, infrastructure upgrades, and innovative campaigns like “ZimBho!” that encourage locals to explore their own country .
Cancer remains a significant public health challenge in Zimbabwe, with over 7 000 new cases and more than 3 000 deaths annually.
Breast and cervical cancers are particularly prevalent among women, and awareness campaigns like Pinktober play a vital role in promoting early detection and support.
Despite progress, challenges persist in public knowledge, access to screening, and rural outreach, making community-driven initiatives all the more important.
