BORROWDALE Brooke Golf Club will be a hive of activity this morning when the annual First Capital Bank Zimbabwe Junior Golf Open tees off with 95 golfers from 12 countries taking part.
The tournament will see participants from countries like China, France, Ghana, Malawi, South Africa, Zambia, Kenya and Zimbabwe represented in this year’s event.
Now in its fifth year, the First Capital Bank Zimbabwe Junior Golf Open continues to grow in scale and impact.
Local junior golfers will be expected to reclaim the title which is in its fifth year and has been dominated by South Africans.
Tournament director Hillary Kaseke believes the tournament will be bigger and better this year as they have several entries.
“We are happy to be hosting the 2026 First Capital Bank, Zimbabwe Junior Open. This is the fifth edition and I would like to give out my gratitude to First Capital Bank for continuously sponsoring this tournament and supporting this event.
“On behalf of the organising team, I hope that we will have a good three days of competitive golf, and don’t forget to enjoy the golf as well,” he said.
As the founding partner and title sponsor, First Capital Bank have played a defining role in shaping the tournament into a credible platform for junior golf development across the region.
Since its inception in 2022, the tournament has evolved into a recognised platform, earning players points on the World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) and creating pathways for young golfers to compete on the international stage.
“In 2022, we were the first to believe and we remain the first to back the golfing youth,” said Tapera Mushoriwa, CEO of First Capital Bank Limited.
“Belief in “Every Swing” reflects our commitment to going beyond banking to investing in people, creating opportunity, and supporting the development of future leaders.
“The discipline, resilience, and focus required in golf are the same qualities that shape success in life and in business.”
The tournament has been further strengthened through the introduction of a Junior Pro-Am development initiative, delivered in collaboration with the Mashonaland Golf Association.
This initiative is designed to broaden access to the game, providing early exposure, mentorship, and learning opportunities for emerging young golfers, particularly at grassroots level.
Zimbabwe rugby team captain Hilton Mudariki who was the guest of honour at the Junior/AM prize-giving ceremony yesterday challenged the young golfers to create memories, drawing from the Sables’ World Cup qualification.
“Golf, like rugby, is not just a game. It is a teacher. It teaches discipline, honesty humility and resilience. It teaches you to respect the process, to trust your preparation, and to understand that every small improvement matters,” said Mudariki.
“So as you step onto that course, don’t just play to win — play to grow. Take in every moment Learn from every shot. Support one another. Build friendships that will last far beyond this tournament.
“And most importantly, enjoy the journey.
“Because one day, you will look back on moments like these — not just for the scores you achieved, but for the person you became along the way.”
