First Family’s early Christmas treat

Sunday Mail Reporter
A joyful heart is good medicine, so is a gift in season.
This was the story at the conclusion of Zanu-PF’s 15th Annual National People’s Conference in Victoria Falls yesterday as delegates could hardly conceal their joy.
Of course, the successful indaba was ample reason for merriment, but there was something more to it, something pulled right out of Santa’s bag!
The delegates congregated with their pre-occupation being to “Consolidate People’s Power Through Zim-Asset”.
But, alas, President Mugabe and First Lady Amai Grace Mugabe consolidated the delegates’ “power” by showering them with various goods like rice, cooking oil, soap and other basics.
President Mugabe said to them, “So, comrades, I say, we have spent three days, we have gained no money, but certainly ideas and with your real commitment, we are full of hope, full of zest, wanting to achieve. Share that with your families, share that with your neighbours.
“We give you very little to take home by way of material you came to give and not to take. The First Lady says she has prepared some little things (for you) to carry home, a bit of rice and say to your children, ‘Merry Christmas!’.
The delegates beamed, no doubt eager to dash back home to show their families the goodies, not ordinary goodies; Christmas gifts from the First Couple.
It was a pleasant surprise that will certainly make their Christmas merry.
