Sungura musician First Farai yesterday turned 37 and celebrations are set for Hillside Bar in Chinhoyi tonight.
The musician said he was happy that he has managed to acquire a new PA system that will be unveiled at the show.
“I was born in Chinhoyi and it explains why I have decided to have the birthday celebrations there and I will unveil my new PA system,” he said.
However, the musician’s dream of launching his new album “Gwata Gwuaka,” on his birthday was cancelled following the death of producer Tymon Mabaleka who was working on the project. Mabaleka died in June.
“I wanted to launch it tomorrow but unfortunately our producer died before we finished so now I have engaged Diamond Studios for that,” he said. First Farai started his career after clinching the top award at the International Music Crossroads finals held in Tanzania in 2002.
Determined to make it, he started working on a number of projects and his breakthrough came when he released his album “Simba Nacho” that did well with the song “Secret Number”.
The sungura musician has played at different stages including national galas where he commanded a huge following.
He has several albums to his name among them “Pahasha”, “Dingatinga”, “Ngingongingo”, “Simba Racho”, “Tiritose Mundima Machinda”, “Zvipo NeTariro”, “Zvandakuitirai Izvi” and “Paidamoyo”.
