First round of Suburbs Squash Doubles League completed

THE first round of this year’s Suburbs Doubles Squash League has been completed across the six sections that were taking part in matches that were played at Suburbs Squash Club in Bulawayo.

Played across five weeks every Monday, the top team is promoted to a higher league while the bottom side is relegated to a lower league.

In the first section of the league, the duo of Mike Burns and Neil Nesbit finished on top of the log standings having 12 games and lost three to finish with an aggregate of nine. They were followed by Greg Strydom and Mike Strydom with an aggregate of five having won 10 and lost five games. Joel Cunningham and Peter Cunningham finished in third place while Lloyd Mangwandi and Dash Vaghmaria finished fourth followed by Dion Brown and Ian Engelbrecht. At the bottom of the table was the duo of Janeel Giga and Rushil Giga who won two games and lost 13 to have an aggregate of -11.

The second section was topped by the doubles pairing of Jeff Fenwick and Trefor Williams who won 11 games and lost four for their seven point aggregate followed by Kirk Allberry and Quentin Ferguson with an aggregate five after 10 wins and five defeats. Anoop Desai And Jaydev Vaghmaria finished in third position with seven wins and eight defeats for an aggregate of -1 followed by the duo of Andy Thompson and Murray Osbourne with the same numbers while the pair of

Richard Mills and Warren Mills had an aggregate of -5 after winning five matches and losing 10 to have the same numbers as bottom placed Ian Dell and Ian Michael.

Alex Dando and Thabo Sibanda topped section three with 13 wins and two defeats for an aggregate of 11 points followed by the duo of Andy Chase and Richard EB who had an aggregate of nine from 12 wins and three defeats. In the third place was Kevin Duppa White and Richard Pearce with an aggregate of five from 10 wins and five defeats followed by Warren King and Peter Brown with five wins and 10 losses for an aggregate of -5 while JJ Nel and Jordan Nel had a total of -7 after four wins and 11 defeats. At the bottom of the standings there was Graham Clarke and Paul Theron with -13 after recording one win and 14 defeats.

The fourth section saw Alan Sawiak and Janak Doolabh top the chart with comprehensive 11 points from 13 wins and two losses while Dion Carlsson and Danish Anand won 12 games and lost three to have a total of nine. Di Risolt and Glenn Mirtle finished in third position with a total of three points followed by Lisa Baker and Mayur Desai with -3 while Kyle Macmillian and Ryan Mitchell had an aggregate of -9. Brian Sutherland-McLeod and Buzz Davies finished at the bottom with a total of -11.

In a section that had eight pairs, Dani Simmonds and Dane Simmonds topped group five with a total of 15 points from 18 wins and three three losses followed by the duo of Lucky Mlilo and Nigel McKop with an aggregate nine and had the same numbers as Amrose Mayers and Deepak Panjiti in third position. Agrippa Nkomo and Trust Sizina were in fourth place with an aggregate of seven while Mike Biddlecombe and Tanya Zietsman had an aggregate of -3 followed by Graig Goby and Eddy King with -7. The pair of Leon Liebenburg and Tain Simmons-Guilb was in position seven while at the bottom there was Travis Craddock and Michael Chiofa.

The sixth and final section also had eight pairs and was topped by the duo of Caroline Fenwick and Danielle Strydom with an aggregate of 19 while in second place Ceri Morgan Davies and Meryl Herbst had a total of seven. In third place, Di Cunningham and Mel Jones finished with an aggregate of five. Dean Ancell and Stacey Ancell finished with an aggregate of -1 followed by Danielle Allberry and Bianca Simmons-Gui and another duo of Carol Davies and Tammy Crawford with an aggregate of -3 both. The bottom two is made up of the duos of Natasha Gwidzima and Alicia and another of Carter Allberry and Caleb Crawford who had aggregate scores of 1- and -17 respectively.

Having completed the five weeks of the first round, the sections are set to be ranked. The winning pair of each section will move up a section and the lowest pair in the section will move down and the next five week’s rotation will then be drawn up. — @brandon_malvin
