Five more accident victims identified

POLICE have released the names of five more of the 22 people killed last Tuesday night when their Toyota Quantum was involved in a head-on collision with a DAF truck along the Bulawayo-Beitbridge Road.

Two other people were also seriously injured in the accident.

National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said five more people have now been identified by their next of kin, leaving just two yet to be identified.

By Thursday last week, 15 of the 22 had been identified by relatives.

The accident happened when the Quantum with 21 passengers on board was involved in a head-on collision with a DAF truck with one passenger on board at the 27km peg along Bulawayo-Beitbridge Road.

The latest five identified are: Thandiwe Dubani (41) of New Lobengula in Bulawayo, Bukekile Tshuma (24) of Entumbane in Bulawayo, Velaphi Ndebele (40) of Zhombe area, Gracious Dube (28) of Cowdray Park in Bulawayo and Nkosiyabo Ndebele (3) of Zhombe.

“The other two victims are yet to be identified by their next of kin. Last week, police had identified the other 15 victims as Brian Phiri (44), of Ndiweni Village in Kezi, Sadam Maenzane (31), Old Magwegwe, Bulawayo, Kifi Sphandla (48) of Nkulumane 5, Bulawayo, Tobias Ncube (36) of Mbundane, Bulawayo, Mehluli Sibanda (39) of Mpopoma in Bulawayo, Gilbert Nyoni (45) of Entumbane, Ntuntuko Mpofu (33) of Emganwini in Bulawayo, Kylene Ndlovu (two years) of Njube, Bulawayo, Vongai Tshuma (36) of Njube, Bulawayo, Jennifer Ndlovu (42) of New Mangwegwe in Bulawayo, Sibonginkosi Ndlovu (42) of West Somerton in Bulawayo, Ruth Mawonidze (33) of Nketa 9 in Bulawayo, Aldrean Ndlalambi (46) of Mkoba 16 in Gweru, Noah Haurambwe (40) of Pumula in Bulawayo, and Dumoluhle Ndlovu (36) of Luveve 5 in Bulawayo.
