WARRIORS forward Tino Kadewere says he is going into another season in Greece with a familiar source of inspiration – the memory and lessons he picked from his late brother Prince.
Today marks five years since Prince, who was a talented footballer in his own right, died on August 12, 2021, after a short illness.
He left a void which the Kadewere family continues to feel.
However, for Tino, his brother’s memory has become a source of strength as he continues his football journey.
Now entering his second season in Greece with Aris Thessaloniki, the Warriors forward says the lessons Prince shared with him remain part of the person and footballer he has become.
“As I continue with this journey, I always remember some of the important messages he shared with me as a young boy until his death.
“I still apply most of the principles he shared with me,” said Tino.
Prince was one of the earliest believers in Tino’s football ability.
Long before Tino made his name, Prince was already watching his progress at Prince Edward School and encouraging him to believe in his talent.
He was among those who were hardly surprised when Tino broke into the domestic top-flight under Taurai Mangwiro at Harare City.
Tino eventually earned a move to Swedish side Djurgårdens.
From Sweden, Tino’s journey took him to France and Spain before Greece became his latest football home.
Through every move, Prince’s voice remained part of his journey.
“He might be gone from my sight, but not from my heart. I will carry the memories with me and continue to work hard, which was always his message,” said Tino.
Prince died while Tino was at Lyon.
The French club honoured him by displaying Prince’s name on the LED screens during their Champions League quarter-final encounter against Sporting Lisbon.
As another Greek season begins, the Warriors forward knows he is not walking the journey alone.
