RELEGATED Dongo Sawmill and Whawha will be playing for pride tomorrow but fellow newboys Flame Lily are still hoping for a miracle to survive the chop.
Takesure Chiragwi’s men travel to Ascot looking to boost their slim chances against fellow Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Service team Whawha whose fate has already been decided.
Sitting five points away from safety with two games remaining, relegation seems inevitable for the newcomers. This could be their day of reckoning but their coach Takesure Chiragwi has refused to throw in the towel.
Flame Lily are battling to stay afloat in dogfight that also pits Buffaloes and league debutants Tsholotsho. They need nothing short of maximum points tomorrow as any other result will all but confirm their demotion.
Chiragwi yesterday said they aim to fight to the end and hope for the best in the matches pitting Highlanders and Tsholotsho and Buffaloes’ away trip to Triangle.
“Mathematically we still have the chance to survive and we are not giving up hope yet. We have to win on Sunday. Everyone in our team knows what’s on the ground.
“We can still survive, we just need to win our remaining two games and then see what happens in the other matches.
“The team has been playing well of late and it’s unfortunate our finishing failed us. We have been getting into scoring positions on many occasions and that alone should be a big positive to build on.
“Personally, I feel there are some games which we should have won but we didn’t do justice to the scoring chances that we created.
“So we will try to improve on that aspect. We have to score more goals and I believe it can be done. All things are possible,” said Chiragwi.
The prison wardens will again be without the trio of Prosper Chinyama, Effort Kopeni and Ben Masuka who are injured.
Flame Lily have 25 points in the bag while Buffaloes are sitting on 29. Tsholotsho, the team that currently occupies the position of safety, will also be fighting for their lives at Highlanders as they are not secure on 30 points.
Tomorrow’s Fixtures:
How Mine v Dongo Sawmill (Luveve), Highlanders v Tsholotsho (Barbourfields), Whawha v Flame Lily (Ascot), Triangle United v Buffaloes (Gibbo)
