FLANDERS was crowned the 2017 Champion Juvenile Stakes winner after he got the better of four other runners at Borrowdale on Sunday.

The 1 200 metres race saw only five entries taking to the starting stalls and most of them were from the Bridget Stidolph yard which provided three runners.

Stidolph saddled three winners which included the cherry on top Flanders who emerged victorious in the grade three race as the two-year-old gelding, owned by Newbury Racing, powered home.

Flanders started at 12/10 on a day when most favourites failed to make an impact with his stable companions Butchie Boy and Misterioso finishing second and third respectively.

The other winners from the Stidolph yard were long shot Nimble Dancer who had Morgan Nyamagwete as the rider in winning the 1200 MR 60 Handicap, and Rhythmical Reply, who scored in the 1450 m Graduation Plate.

For their efforts Flanders and Chambers went home $4 800 richer with second-placed Butchie Boy pocketing $1 600 while Misterioso was third and took home $960.

Sweet Tea finished a distant fourth to get $160. Racing will return to the Park and race course in a fortnight when the Republic Cup takes place.

The race will have 13 runners.
