MDC chairperson of the council of elders Fletcher Dulini Ncube who died at Mater Dei Hospital in Bulawayo on Thursday will be buried next week, the party said yesterday.
Ncube, a founding member of the united MDC died at the age of 74 after a long illness.
MDC spokesperson Nhlanhla Dube said the burial date was yet to be confirmed.
“Indications from the family reflect that the burial will be held between Tuesday and Wednesday as the family is waiting for other members who are outside the country and a son in United States. Although he suffered a lot of political discomfort, Dulini remained truthful, honest and principled,” said Dube
Norman Mabhena, a member of the MDC-T guardian council, who was detained at Gonakudzingwa together with Ncube during the liberation war, described the deceased as a principled and brave fighter.
“He was indeed a political dynamite of a rare quality, a man who spoke his mind no matter the consequences,” he said.
“Ncube was among the generation of brave fighters who faced enormous risks and difficulties in laying the ground work for the protracted struggle. His death has robbed Zimbabwe of the greatest talent to come by,” added Mabhena.
Ncube’s wife May said her husband was a loving partner, father, grandfather and friend.
“I never got even a pinch from my husband. I will miss him a lot especially his smile and all the love and support he gave me and the family,” she said.
Born on January 9, 1940, Ncube is survived by wife May and three sons Bhekimuzi, Vusile, Sandile and four grandchildren. Mourners are gathered at Number 7 Oxford Road, Hillside, Bulawayo.
