The ongoing problems at local low-cost airliner Fly Africa nearly got South Africa’s Millicent Nkagane to miss her flight yesterday as she was informed at the last minute that her flight had been changed as she had to board Airlink.

Fly Africa’s operations were suspended last week after the airline surrendered its operating licence due to a shareholding dispute and failure to meet statutory requirements.

The low-cost airline’s planes have been grounded after the Civil Aviation Authority of Zimbabwe (CAAZ) suspended the airline’s operations.

This affected many people including Nkagane who had just showcased at the Matabeleland Fashion Week in Bulawayo as a guest designer.

Fly Africa was said to be one of the sponsors of the Fashion Week and were jetting in Nkagane ahead of her show on Saturday.

Nkagane had to leave in a rush to the airport after she was told that she had to check in at 10.50AM as her flight was at 12.50PM.

“Millicent had to leave early because her flight was rescheduled.

“Fly Africa had paid for her ticket to Airlink which left at 12.50PM,” said Amanda Mutangadura the brains behind the Fashion Week.

During the grand finale of the Fashion Week there were people who won air tickets from Fly Africa to attend the Victoria Falls Carnival.

However, Mutangadura said these actually won tickets to attend the Victoria Falls Carnival.

“They all won tickets to attend the Victoria Falls Carnival and enjoy there.

“Their air tickets as well will be taken care of by Fly Africa,” said Mutangadura.
