A FOETUS was found dumped at the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) Old Camp in Gwanda Town on Friday last week in a suspected case of abortion.
Matabeleland South provincial police spokesperson Inspector Philisani Ndebele confirmed the incident. No suspect has been arrested in connection with the matter.

“Investigations on the matter are underway  to ascertain who exactly is responsible,” said Insp Ndebele.

Sources told Chronicle that the foetus was found close to the police camp’s canteen on Friday morning.

Police collected it on Friday and took it to Gwanda Hospital Provincial Hospital mortuary.

“The foetus was found lying bare on the ground near the canteen and the fowl run. Whoever dumped it thought it was at a hidden place hoping no one would  see it. Suspicion is that one of the maids working for the police officers could be the one who aborted,” said the source. Some people said someone from outside the police camp could have dumped it there.

“People move in and out of this camp freely, so we can’t dismiss the fact that someone not residing here could be responsible,” said another source.
