Food and drink for the community

MQOMBOTHI Sports Bar in Bulawayoas Nkulumane 12 suburb will on Sunday give complimentary opaque beer and slaughter two beasts for the community.

Whatas the catch?

Simple. The club will be re-launching and the freebies are not necessarily free because they are a marketing strategy.

a?We are doing it to introduce ourselves to the community. Unlike nightclubs, sports bars operate in communities and the community members are our main clients,a? said Mqombothi Sports Bar manager Zandile Moyo.

By definition a sports bar ordinarily caters for sports fans and typically contains several televisions and often sports memorabilia. However, Mqombothi has an additional flair.

a?We want to make Sundays a big deal because other days are usually taken by nightclubs in the city centre. Thatas why you will find dance groups or even big musicians performing. Music lovers will recall that artistes such as Oliver Mtukudzi started out performing atA beer and community halls. We want to bring them back to the grassroots and also help upcoming musicians start up,a? she added.

The nightclub is taking a a?Maoista? approach.

a?The community is the water, we are the fish and without water we are as good as non-existent. As such we will take up social responsibility roles,a? she said.

For argumentas sake, if each person eats a kg of beef and the full weight of a slaughtered average cow is 250kg, then for each cow slaughtered on Sunday, 250 people will feast. Therefore, the sports bar will on Sunday have the capacity to feed a thousand people.
