FC Platinum midfielder, Hagiazo Magaya, says Norman Mapeza’s intervention, when he was heading for an exit, changed his career.
Magaya was recommended by Mapeza to join the first team from the club’s developmental side.
But, during that same campaign, Mapeza joined South Africa’s Chippa United.
The following season, the midfielder was offered to Bulawayo Chiefs on a season loan deal.
When Mapeza returned to Mandava, he reversed Magaya’s loan move.
The 23-year-old has now won two championships with FC Platinum.
He has been getting the nod ahead of Brian Banda and Ransome Pavari.
“Coach Mapeza is like a father to me because he has transformed my life on and off the field.
“I don’t know what could have happened to me in my career if he had not made that decision because I was still young at that time.
“It’s a blessing to have him as my mentor because he has enough knowledge about the game and I believe I was never going to be the player that I am today if it wasn’t his touch,” said Magaya.
He added.
“I’m still young and I still have a long way to go to be recognised in local football circles.
“And, it’s good that I have the right man who has coached and played at the highest level.
“He’s very demanding, he believes in hard work and I will give my hundred percent effort each time I get the chance to play.
“I really owe him a lot for the trust that he has shown in me and I’m forever grateful.”
The champions have won their last two games.
They welcome Green Fuel at Mandava on Saturday in a Castle Lager Premiership fixture.
