It seems the fun and entertainment business locally is continuing to grow as seen by many foreign acts finding new ground to play in Zimbabwe.
With a hive of activities taking place this weekend, especially this month which is one of the busiest, some foreign acts are jetting into the country from today for various shows.
Besides having those acts, of course local is lekker, local artistes are also geared to give value for money to their fans.
The good thing is that although music is dominating, especially on weekend shows, all genres are covered and fans are spoilt for choice, with some events being family shows.
Here is a weekend guide on the shows taking place this weekend:
Casper Nyovest, Nasty C for Fiesta Fiesta
Organisers of the outdoor show, Fiesta Fiesta, have said all is set for the show which will see South African rappers Casper Nyovest and Nasty C headlining the act.
Fiesta Fiesta is a brainchild of Chuckie “DJ Chucknosis” Kofi-Teye Ayisha, who said this month’s edition will not be an ordinary show, but a big event.
DJ Chucknosis said they roped in the South African rappers as part of their ongoing African Tour which kicked off in August and will roll into Fiesta Fiesta tomorrowat Alex Sports Club.
He said this month’s edition is running under the “Fill Up Alex Sports Club” tag.
“These are two major hip hop artistes in Africa, for them to be coming to Zimbabwe for the first time at once, it’s a huge thing,” he said. “This edition is not an ordinary fiesta but a big event.
“The idea for Fill Up Alex Sports Club was inspired by the fact that Cassper Nyovest has been filling up stadiums in South Africa, so with him coming to Zimbabwe, we decided to call it that.”
For years, Fiesta Fiesta has only focused on the Amapiano genre but this time the organisers decided to take the hip-hop route.
“This is not a normal Fiesta Fiesta, it’s a big event, we are targeting anyone interested,” said DJ Chucknosis. “This will be the biggest tour on the hip-hop scene in Africa featuring two mavericks who are on a journey to showcase the richness of African hip-hop on a global stage.”
The show will see local acts sharing the stage with the foreign acts and these include Volts JT, Bling 4, Denimwoods, and OCD. Icey Ekxne and Slyme Foxx.
Tickets are going for US$20, US$30, US$50, and US$100 depending on the sectionone chooses.
Zimpraise hosts Apostolic Gathering Concert on Sunday
After hosting the AfriPraise show in the United Kingdom which was highly attended and also saw various local musicians performing, Zimpraise Legacy has planned another show scheduled this Sunday, this time in Harare.
Dubbed, “Apostolic Gathering,” the event will be held at the Rainbow Towers, after church time, from 2pm, and will see seasoned musicians such as Everton Mlalazi, Kuda Mutsvene, Ellard and Sharon Cherayi, Janet Manyowa, Jonah Chivasa, Tembalami Praise, Joyful Praise, Spirit Praise and Benjamin Rupapa sharing the stage with Zimpraise choir.
Zimpraise chief executive and founder member Joseph Madziyire said all was set for the show which is also free in some sections of the auditorium.
“We are happy with the response so far after we released the list of musicians who are expected at this gathering concert,” he said.
“It will happen on Sunday in the afternoon after church services in some denominations. The musicians have all confirmed and are geared to perform with some started rehearsals.”
Madziyire said Zimpraise Choir will also sing with some of the musicians on the line-up.
“Though it will be a Sunday, we will try to maximise the time we have and we have spoken with the artistes on their playlists if they can include the crowd’s favourite song so that fans are not short-changed due to the time limit of the artistes. Also as ZimPraise, we are going to sing with some of the stars as backing vocalists,” he said.
Commenting on the free entry, Madziyire said since the festive season was close, it was part of giving back to the community.
“Yes, the event is free but only at the balcony of the giant auditorium, but for the VIP and VVIP who will be close to the stage there is a peg which is US$10, US$20, and US$50 respectively,” he said.
“It is part of our community responsibility. We decided why not have the gathering as gospel artistes under one roof. We also worked with what the crowd wanted.”
