THE Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade has sent a message of condolence to the Chuma family following the death of Mr Cuthbert Chuma, who served as an accountant in the ministry.
In a statement, the Ministry said Mr Chuma was amongst the country’s earliest crop of civil servants, having joined the Ministry on September 12, 1980.
“It was with deep sorrow and sadness that we learnt of the untimely death of Mr Chuma, a few months after having retired from Government at the conclusion of his last diplomatic posting in Tokyo, Japan in July 2022,” said the Ministry.
“In his youthful prime, he served as an accountant at the United Nations Mission in New York between 1983 and 1986 and later on served at the Mission in London between 1992 and 1998.
“Between 2001 to 2010, he was at our Consulate in Beira, Mozambique, before capping his Foreign Service career in Tokyo, Japan where he was posted from 2011 to July 2022, before his recall to head office and subsequent retirement.
“In between his four diplomatic postings, he diligently served as an accountant at head office; a demanding role which equally required the highest degree of transparency, accountability and honesty in handling public finances. We will forever remember the late Mr Chuma’s long service wholly dedicated to the Ministry and, will continuously cherish the virtues which he exuded in the discharge of his duties at home and abroad,” said the Ministry.
