FOREIGN delegates have started trickling in for the inaugural Zanu PF War Veterans League Conference.
The conference begins this Friday ending on Saturday in Harare.
A representative of the Revolutionary Council of Palestine, Cde Kifar harb Abdalqader, touched down at the Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport last night.
She was welcomed by Zanu PF Secretary for War Veterans Cde Douglas Mahiya and Palestinian Ambassador to Zimbabwe, Tamer Almassri.
Cde Abdalqader said sanctions imposed on Zimbabwe by the West must be unconditionally removed.
“We are happy to be here in Zimbabwe to attend the inaugural Zanu PF War Veterans League Conference,” she said.
Cde Kifar harb Abdalqader said Zimbabwe and Palestine share the same history and supported each other during the liberation struggle.
“We have a great and long history between the Palestine Liberation Organisation and our comrades in Zanu PF.
“You achieved your independence in 1980 (but) we are struggling to achieve our independence. We are in solidarity with Zimbabwe to end the sanctions,” she said.
Zanu PF is winding up preparations for the conference to be held at the Harare International Conference Centre.
Cde Mahiya said preparations for the historic conference were at an advanced stage.
“Preparations are going on very well and you have seen the arrival of the Palestine delegation.
“The other group is arriving tomorrow (today).
“The War Veterans League has invited the PLO for its inaugural meeting. The common denominator between Zimbabwe and Palestine is the struggle for Independence.
“Zanu PF is a progressive political party which has a mandate to give support and build relationship with all progressive forces, so that is what we are doing.
“The League, new as it is, has a duty to extend our relationship with all progressive forces and PLO is one of them,” said Cde Mahiya.
Forty positions are up for grabs and election guidelines show that the positions would be shared equally among the 10 provinces.
Accreditation of delegates started last week.
The inaugural elective conference will be held under the theme: “The Past, Power of the Present and Inspiration of the Future”.
At least 3 500 delegates are expected to grace the conference.
