Zanu-PF Mashonaland West provincial chairperson Cde Ziyambi Ziyambi has extended an olive branch to members of the G40 cabal and urged party members to unite ahead of elections scheduled for later this year.
Addressing the party’s Mashonaland West provincial joint council in Chinhoyi last weekend, Cde Ziyambi said unity would guarantee resounding victory for the revolutionary party.
Cde Ziyambi cautioned members of the G40 to stop canvassing for positions in the party since they had to work hard to regain the trust of the party. The party’s First Secretary and President, Cde Emmerson Mnangagwa, since taking over leadership from Cde Robert Mugabe, has been calling for unity.
Cde Ziyambi said he was prepared to work with every party member, notwithstanding the fact that the province probably became the biggest “playground” for G40.
“We know that Mashonaland West Province was the playground of the G40 kingpins, including, among others, expelled former First Lady Grace Mugabe, who was at the forefront of causing divisions in the party,” he said.
“Under Grace, you were not even allowed to express yourself. There will be no more purging in this province; those who are in the executive, I urge you to forgive each other and be ready to work as a team.”
Cde Ziyambi denounced name-calling, saying unity was key, especially before the harmonised elections. He urged the party’s three main wings – the main wing, the Women’s League and the Youth League – to come up with tangible programmes ahead of the elections, saying this would ensure a landslide victory for Zanu-PF.
