AUSTRALIA-BASED Zimbabwean cricketer, Charles Kunje, is doing well both as a player and coach.
The 32-year-old all-rounder has been one of the most consistent players for Rockingham Mandruah, who compete in the Western Australia District Association League.
He moved to Australia three years ago from his local side Midwest Rhinos where he played alongside stars like Ryan Burl.
He has hit 50 half centuries for his club over the past two years.
“Moving to Australia wasn’t about walking away from Zimbabwe cricket.
“It was an opportunity to build a new life while continuing to develop as both a cricketer and as a person. Along the way, I’ve balanced work, studying and playing cricket, gained valuable experience that has helped me mature both on and off the field.
“The journey hasn’t always been easy. There have been setbacks and moments of disappointment, but those experiences have strengthened my character and reinforced my love for the game.
“Instead of giving up, I focused on improving my fitness, developing my coaching, and continuing to perform whenever opportunities came.”
Kunje still dreams of returning to play for the Chevrons.
“Returning to Zimbabwe, I genuinely believe I’m a more complete player than when I left.
“My ambition is to earn the chance to represent my country at the highest level again, but I don’t expect anything to be handed to me easily.
“My focus is simply on performing consistently and keep enjoying the game I love dearly.
“Zimbabwe gave me my start in cricket, while Australia has played a huge role in my personal and professional development.
“If I have the opportunity to wear Zimbabwe colours again, it would be a privilege. Until then, I’ll continue working hard, staying humble and making the most of every opportunity that comes my way.”
In Australia, Kunje is doubling both as a player and a coach.
