Former CCC Member of Parliament for Binga, Prince Dubeko has appeared in court on allegations of inciting violence ahead of the just-ended SADC Summit.
Dubeko appeared before Harare magistrate, Mrs Marehwanazvo Gofa.
He was remanded in custody to Friday for bail application.
The court heard that from August 1 to 16, the accused posted on CCC WhatsApp groups, his X handle (Prince Dubeko Sibanda/@Dubeko Sibanda) messages inciting members of his political party to engage in violent activities by barricading roads and burning tyres.
It is the State’s case that Dubeko posted the following: “Unless the SADC creates a platform where the Heads of State will engage Zimbabweans on the SEOM report and other issues, we will create a platform to meet with them in the streets of Harare.
“No intimidation will stop us. Let us shut down Harare in August. Let us barricade the streets in Harare. Let us burn tyres and use old cars.”
Some of the messages were captured as screenshots by witnesses and were submitted to the police.
The court heard that as a result of the incitement, High Glen road was barricaded and tyres were burnt at Mukonono River Bridge, Marimba, thereby preventing the free movement of persons and traffic on that road on August 16 at around 4.30 am.
On August 17, 2024, a team of detectives from CID Beitbridge saw the accused at Beitbridge Border Post and arrested him.
