Former Chitungwiza Municipality director of works Emmanuel Mushata has been sentenced to an effective two and a half years imprisonment after Harare Regional Magistrate Mr Stanford Mambanje convicted him of criminal abuse of duty last week.
Mushata was initially sentenced to 48 months imprisonment before 12 months were suspended.

The court ruled that in 2019, Mushata had illegally created and allocated a 476 square metre Zengeza 4 residential stand to Chengetai Nyagondo, who was the MDC-T councillor for Zengeza.

Mushata was initially charged with Nyagondo and Alex Mukweva, a former director of housing at the local authority.

However, the court concluded that Nyagondo and Mukweza had not committed the offense.

In sentencing Mushata, Mr Mambanje said the courts do not condone corruption.
