TWO former ministers in the inclusive Government were on Tuesday reprimanded for seeking to gain political mileage using the food shortage that the country is experiencing.Speaker of House of Assembly Mr Jacob Mudenda and Zanu-PF chief whip separately reprimanded former Minister of Water Resources Development and Management, Mr Sam Sipepa Nkomo and former Public Service Minister Lucia Matibenga for making false statements while making contributions in the National Assembly.
Mr Sipepa Nkomo and Ms Matibenga who are Members of Parliament for Lobengula and Kuwadzana respectively had made contributions to a motion moved by the former and seconded by the latter calling for the setting up of a committee to investigate food shortage.
First to rebuke the pair was Mr Mudenda after Mr Sipepa Nkomo had said land was seized from white commercial farmers by the Government during the land redistribution programme. “May I draw the attention of the Honourable Member that the land was not seized.
The redistribution and resettlement was done in terms of the law passed by this Parliament,” said Mr Mudenda. During the debates Mr Sipepa-Nkomo described the new farmers as inexperienced and attributed food shortage to the land redistribution programme.
