MR Andrew Ndlovu and wife Mrs Memoricious Ndlovu, née Ncube (both freedom fighters), renewed their marriage vows with a white wedding at the Roman Catholic Church Holy Spirit Parish in Nkulumane 12 on Africa Day.

Mr and Mrs Ndlovu, who fought under Zipra, initially legally married in October 1987 and chose 25 May, Africa Day to solemnise their marriage before Reverend Fr Leonard Baa, parish priest for Holy Spirit.

The colourful wedding took place at Holy Spirit Parish with the reception at the parish garden and was attended by a cross section of people from Nkulumane 12 and around Bulawayo.

In his Homily, Rev Fr Baa underscored the importance of the family institution and faithful marriage not only to the respective families, but to the community and society as a whole.

“Marriage is a holy sacrament. You don’t marry to divorce but to unite as family. Marrying in the church is not an agreement, you are marrying for life. God set marriage in a way full of eternal life, showing the love God gave us.

“You got married a long time back and now you are making your marriage in the church with God and you have remained faithful to one another. Staying faithful is not easy but those that are faithful will remain with God. Once you are faithful, your family will grow and prosper but if you don’t love your spouse and love a small house there is a problem,” said Rev Fr Baa.

He encouraged unity in families.

The marriage was the first at the parish this year.

Holy Spirit Parish celebrated its jubilee anniversary on May 18, following its establishment 25 years ago and His Grace, Archbishop Alex Thomas Kaliyanil of the Archdiocese of Bulawayo presided over the celebrations where he emphasized the need for unity and respect for human dignity.

He also urged church members and community at large, particularly youth, to stay away from abusing drugs.

Mr Ndlovu has joined the St Joseph’s Guild and was inducted on Sunday while Mrs Ndlovu is preparing to join St Anne’s Association.

The couple are both professional accountants after training at Modern Commercial Institute in Monrovia, Liberia where they were in exile until the 1990s before returning home.

Mr Ndlovu was recently appointed by the community of Nkulumane constituency, as chair of the Constituency Development Committee which constitute all political parties.
