A FORMER Bulawayo Polytechnic student activist is on the police wanted list after he reportedly skipped bail on allegations of inciting political violence.

Alfonce Bvonyongwa, who was now an active member of the opposition in Chimanimani, Manicaland province.

Bvonyongwa’s political activities date back to February 2004 when he was at Bulawayo Poly and was arrested together with his fellow members of the Student Representative Council after they organised an illegal demonstration against the increase of the tertiary institution’s fees.

In the latest developments, Bvonyongwa is said to have led an illegal demonstration where they disrupted food distribution activities in the district, arguing that the ruling Zanu-PF was distributing the food according to party lines.

He was arrested together with one Andrew Mtabeya where they were accused of inciting political violence and being a public nuisance.

“According to police documents the two were arrested and charged with inciting political violence, they were ordered to report at Cashel police station until the finalization of their case. However, Bvonyongwa seems to have decided to go into hiding and did not report to the police station as had been instructed,” said a police source.

However, sources close to Bvonyongwa revealed that he had confided to them that he no longer trusted that he would receive a fair trial as he had been previously harassed because of his political inclinations.

“He has been arrested numerous times, his wife has been allegedly raped, he was once attacked with a sword and at one point a gun was discharged outside his house, these are all the transgressions he has suffered therefore he said he was afraid on what will happen to him next,” said his colleague who declined to be named.
