Former Sunday Mail editor joins Skyz Metro FM

Former Sunday Mail Editor, Brezhnev Malaba has joined Skyz Metro FM – Bulawayo’s first commercial radio station.

The station that was licensed early this year, and had hoped to start broadcasting in September, is now expected to be launched in December.

Taking to his Facebook page, Fair Talk Communications chief executive officer, Qhubani Moyo yesterday announced that Malaba would be joining the station as group news and current affairs editor.

Yesterday, prospective producers, presenters and the Skyz Metro FM editorial team attended a training workshop at a local hotel.

“The final count down!!! Pleased to announce the appointment Brezhnev Malaba as the group news and current affairs editor,” posted an excited Moyo.

In an interview recently, Moyo said the launch had delayed as renovations were still underway at Amakhosi Theatre and Cultural Centre – home to Skyz Metro FM.

“We underestimated the renovations that were meant to be done for the station and missed the deadline. Plans are still on course for us to go on air, and we’ll only be able to do so in December,” Moyo said.

“We also delayed in acquiring our equipment that was needed for the radio station but we’re working on that.”

He said the delays had however given them ample time to groom presenters, identifying their strengths and weaknesses.

“We’ve confidence in the team that we have at the moment and we know that it’ll do well. We’re sticking to the same people that we had at the beginning,” Moyo said.

Some of the presenters and producers include former Miss Zimbabwe – Samantha Tshuma, comedian Babongile Sikhonjwa, socialites Mbo Mahocs and Gilmore Tee, Benkosi BK Maphosa, Kundai Shamuyarira, Manesi Ndlovu, Mellisa Ndlovu, Nkululeko Nkala, Zenzo Moyo, Sandra Ndebele, Nyasha Mtangamira, and Thanduxolo Ndlovu.
