The world’s best athletes will be in Paris this summer at the 2024 Summer Olympics. If you’re planning on watching some of the Games, it won’t take long for you to come across an athlete who participated in an NCAA sport.
In fact, if you’re watching Team USA, it’ll be harder to not find an incoming, current or former student-athlete. So we took a look at some of the eye-opening stats related to those athletes. All numbers as of Friday, July 19.

8 — Team USA women’s basketball is trying to win its eighth consecutive gold medal at the Olympics. This year’s squad is made up entirely of former NCAA standouts
10 — The number of medals won by former Stanford swimming star Katie Ledecky, seven gold. She’ll be back in the pool in Paris. It’s also the number of DIII athletes at this year’s Olympics
13 — The number of individual swimming events at the 2024 NCAA DI women’s swimming and diving championships. Sisters Alex and Gretchen Walsh won six of them for Virginia. They also swam together on three Virginia relay titles — with Gretchen swimming on a fourth
14 — Number of NCAA athletes that will go for gold for host nation France. One is Gabby Williams, who won two national championships on the UConn women’s basketball team in 2015 and 2016
17 — Career scoring average on the Arizona men’s basketball team for Chase Budinger from 2006-09. He’s now an Olympian — in beach volleyball
37 — How many DII athletes will be at the Olympics
38 — Stanford’s top mark of the number of Team USA Olympians
51 — Stanford’s bragging rights include leading with the number of athletes in this year’s Olympic Games worldwide. USC (44), Michigan (42) Florida (40) and Cal (39) round out the top five. At the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo, Cardinal athletes won 26 medals
