FOUR DIE ON GWERU HIGHWAY: BMW, Isuzu in head-on crash

A DEADLY head on smash along the Gweru- Zvishavane Road has left four people dead.

The tragic accident happened at around 3.50PM on Friday near the 89 kilometre peg. A BMW heading towards Zvishavane slammed head on into an Isuzu KB250 travelling in the opposite direction.

The BMW had two passengers on board while the Isuzu was carrying three. The impact was so violent that two victims died instantly and the wrecks were left twisted beyond recognition.

Police confirmed that the drivers of both vehicles were among the four people who lost their lives. The other two victims were rushed to Zvishavane District Hospital but were pronounced dead on arrival.

National police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi urged motorists to exercise extreme caution on the busy highway which has become a magnet for tragic head on collisions.

He said investigations into the cause of the crash are underway.
